3-2-1: On the time you’ll never get back

Happy 3-2-1 Thursday!

Welcome to the first edition of the newsletter! Each week, you’ll get three ideas, two quotes, and one question to help you enjoy your parenting journey.

THREE IDEAS FROM ME

1.

When you check your phone, you’re not just looking at a screen, you’re missing a moment that could have been spent truly seeing your child. Your child doesn’t need you to entertain them constantly, just your full presence.

2.

The best way to slow time is to immerse yourself in the present. Pay attention to your child’s laughter, the way they ask questions, and the small details of your interactions.

3.

If you don’t make time to be present now, you may find yourself longing for time with your child when they’re older and busy with their own lives.

TWO QUOTES FROM OTHERS

1.

Philosopher Jean de La Bruyère on the unique perspective of children:

"Children have neither past nor future; they enjoy the present, which very few of us do."

Source: The Characters, or the Manners of the Age (1687)

2.

Columnist and radio host Abigail Van Buren on what children truly value:

"If you want your children to turn out well, spend twice as much time with them and half as much money."

Source: Dear Abby (1956-66)

ONE QUESTION FOR YOU

How would your child describe your attention this week: fully present, distracted, or somewhere in between?

Until next week,
